Shooting the aurora is a passion of mine. I have been hooked since I first captured the phenomenon called STEVE back in 2016.
This past week there was an aurora storm watch for much of the week and weekend. I sat at work watching storm level readings on my apps, was teased by notification after notification. When it was finally dark in the west everything faded out. Like many other photographers I sat out late into the night for any chance to catch the green lady dancing across the sky. Night after night nothing materialized.
Waiting to Dance features me all set up in a location ready to catch a glimpse of the aurora only to discover I was dancing solo night after night.
However it was still worth trying, worth the lack of sleep, worth the disappointment. This is how it works when you photograph natural events like this. You have to put in the time, the long sleepless nights, This is what makes it so much sweeter when you are treated to the ultimate spectacle nature has to offer.
After all, if it was easy it wouldn’t be as sweet.
Waiting to Dance is about the time it takes to catch something amazing. It is about being dedicated to an idea, a passion.
