Prism, 2022, stop motion animation.

How do you measure the space between Selves? This stop motion animation, from Cc & Juni, assembles our two figures in daytime afterglow — through a prism of skin and sky and parts diffusing. Glitching in and out of frame, they fracture and recombine. CC’s identity as a nonbinary femme embraces Juni’s trans femininity in a caress of contrast. Their conjoined forms stand tall, cut out from the void, in the halo of a backdrop both unreal, and surreal — effervescent, technicolor, vaporized. Where does the spirit really congeal?

“Prism” is a statement of queerness, identity, and singularity; of everything and nothing.

Medium: stop motion animation, blue body paint, digital collage, poster paper, self portrait photography

Models: CC in the blue, Juni in the flesh.

Cc & Juni are Asian diaspora artists from Oakland. Together, with their ongoing 1:1 Phase Change series on Foundation, they form a Web3 collective. Their self-portrait work represents the amalgam of two queer femme bodies colliding in time & space, both on and off the Metaverse.

Cc: Ann Li (Twitter: @play_w_cc Instagram: @play_w_cc) is a nonbinary self-portrait photographer & digital-media performance artist. Their work interrogates late-stage capitalism & social media culture from its own terrain. They/she grew up Chinese-American on the east coast.

Juniper Yun (Twitter: @tygrpuppy Instagram: @tigerrabbittiger) is a South-Korean born, Oakland-based visual artist & writer whose work explores themes of identity, desire, & transformation. As a trans WOC, she uplifts & supports her communities.

METAPRIDE LAND CHARITY COLLECTION collection image

A digital rainbow made by queer artists and allies, this inaugural charity collection surveys our current landscape of artists who mint NFTs and explore digital identities through a queer lens. The artists will be donating a percentage of sales to non-profits.

Navigating these pieces, you can see a spectrum of identities through different mediums. The modern queer experience cannot exist without art on the internet. For all its promises, Web 2.0 and social media has not made things safer for queer folks. LGBTQIA+ communities are often under attack with online hate, harassment and misinformation. Queer people need a safe space online in which to thrive.

This is where METAPRIDE LAND steps in. We are claiming spaces in as many Metaverses that exist so queer folks can think, play and roam freely. We will not let Web 3.0 be a space for hate. And we will do so by giving space for art that represent queer people of every shade. This inaugural charity collection will begin that legacy.
