In slice 7 you see 2 things that are synonymous with Amsterdam. Bridges and trams. Also, this is the river Amstel and it is due to this river that Amsterdam is called Amsterdam. You see, the Amstel was here before the city and when settlers started coming here they were building little settlements alongside the Amstel. It wasn't until much later that when the Amstel overflowed, a dam was built (Damrak) and the city started to form into what we know today. Take Amstel, take Dam, and the name Amsterdam was born.
But back to the bridges and trams. Since Amsterdam is a city built on water and canals, bridges are the lifelines of the city. And on these lifelines, the easiest way to travel from point A to point B is by tram. Or by bicycle of course, but the tram system in Amsterdam just works really well.
The bridge that you see here is called the Hoge Sluis Bridge which was built in 1883. It's one of Amsterdam's more decorative bridges with a lot of ornaments and cast iron sigils. In the background, you can see a very big building. This is the Royal Theater Carré, a building that was built in 1887 by the family Carré. It is a building with a special monumental status that protects it from being demolished in case there are new designation planes for this part of the city.
