The Sun, The Moon, The Earth and The Ocean. All intrinsically linked in creating wave shapes and ocean art.
Low tide is primarily caused by the gravitational forces exerted by the moon and the sun on the Earth's oceans. When these forces are not aligned, they create areas of low water levels, resulting in low tide twice a day. Additionally, the shape of the coastline, the depth of the ocean floor, and other local factors can influence the timing and extent of the tide. low tide has a significant influence on wave shapes, making them steeper and altering their behaviour, due to the changing underwater topography and currents. Understanding low tide is crucial for a surfer or any ocean goer.
This image shows just how shallow reef breaks can be and the risk involved for surfers chasing these types of waves. This capture was taken at the same spot as Mid Tide to showcase the difference in wave shape and appearance from above. I have actually bounced off the reef shown in this image after a wipeout and I still have the scars to prove it. The rock slab at this particular reef break is unforgiving and a lot of locals wear head protection when surfing it.
This is the second of three free limited editions from the 'Ocean Abstract' series available to those who have minted all 4 pieces dropped since May. You have all kept me going during this bear run of 2022/2023 and I cannot express how truly grateful I am for your support.
