If You Tried - TOMI x VÉRITÉ
Sometimes we have to leave everything behind in order to evolve. My name is Pam Autuori, and I perform under the name TOMI.
Music has always been my therapy; it’s the voice I can rely on when I need clarity, a good vent, or just an outlet to be free from the world we live in. Growing up as a queer kid in the suburbs, I relied on music as a means to process my identity and I started TOMI to have a place I could go where I didn’t have to chase fads, I could chase myself.
I met VÉRITÉ soon after I started TOMI. I had been watching her success and was in awe of her work ethic and ability to bring her life experiences into her music so seamlessly and honestly. After our initial meeting I knew we had to collaborate. She instantly changed my perspective on how to approach the music industry and the diligence it takes to be the best version of oneself. When she dove headfirst into web3, I knew it was the next horizon for independent artists.
I have an almost too typical music industry story…signing away my rights, losing the autonomy over my art and finding myself in a position where I was stuck between a bad record deal and forward momentum. “If You Tried” is a song about relieving oneself of blame and moving forward - independent, wiser and stronger. This song gave me a voice when I felt like mine had been signed away.
Writing and producing “If You Tried” felt like an exhale, as if I had finally let out a breath I had been holding in for so long. Releasing her into the world through sound.xyz and entering a completely new world of possibility for how I create, distribute and experiment with my music feels electric, like there are no limits to what I am capable of. This is the way music should be released and the way it should be heard without the fluff and rat race of the music industry we’ve come to know. Web3 is a rare way to connect with people all over the world, metaverse and beyond and I am thrilled to be a part of this new adventure.
Thank you for listening to “If You Tried” and I hope it brings you a feeling of empowerment and strength. Until next time…
