Unlike the other pieces in this collection, the tale of how this image came to be is not filled with grand adventures. However, it’s still a beautiful place where I’ve been able to find solitude.

Lighthouse Park is located in West Vancouver, BC and easily accessible, providing a convenient place to get some much needed reprieve from the city! However, most people don’t stick around after sunset. The brief hike back through the forest is a little creepy in the dark.

When my friend and I arrived, I knew I wanted to create a beautiful image of this tree, known to locals as the Juniper Tree. I had tried before, during golden hour, and failed. We sat down and began waiting and watching. It was a beautiful day and the park wasn’t super busy - a great time to relax and let the mind clear. We watched the sun go down, ushering in blue hour.

My idea was to create what is called a blue hour blend. A bit of departure from my usual shooting times, but it has great potential for atmosphere. This composite blending technique is used to capture a wider segment of an experience, in this case watching blue hour give way to the starry night sky. After capturing the blue hour images, we waited for the stars to make their appearance and we began shooting again.

Soon it was time to call it and we packed up and went on the creepy walk through the dark forest. In Photoshop I assembled the images together in a way that best reflected the overall experience.

I hope you enjoy viewing this as much as I enjoyed creating it! Tristan Todd

Boundless Solitude collection image

This is my ultimate collection, spanning my best years of photography, during which I've been fortunate enough to visit many incredible places while finding and honing my artistic voice.

I found it in places where solitude is boundless. These images are as much a reflection of me as they are of Mother Nature. Let me take you through my journey.

Volume 1, containing all things blue, of a planned 3.
