Foli is a word that encompasses so much more than drumming, dancing or sound. It’s found in everyday part of daily life. It’s an extraordinary blend of image and sound that feeds the senses and remains us all how essential it is.
Life has a rhythm, it’s constantly moving. The word for rhythm (used by Malinke Tribes) is Foli. This painting depicted after being inspired by some african traditional dance.
PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIST
Deng Majid Chol was born in 1982 in Abyei, South Sudan. A self-taught painter and draftsman, he has participated in several exhibitions and artists' workshops in Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Uganda and South Sudan.
His artistic research, colorful and figurative, revolves around the theme of human activities as they may be shaped by cultural and traditional heritage. He is mainly inspired by the traditions, beliefs, habits and customs of the Dinka, a people of farmers and cattle breeders of South Sudan.
