Unrequited love
The cigarette after sex
A jet of hot steam
Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park
Wyoming, USA
I'm on a long drive West across the flat farmlands of Middle America.
I find myself attentive to the space where the sky and earth meet.
These gray ridges in the distance merge with the sky,
eventually to become the clouds above me.
I'm held in anticipation of a specific moment, when these forms no longer lose their shape.
The blurred outlines resolve, the borders darken, the shapes become defined.
I've forgotten about the last 10 hours of redundancies, transfixed by these ever growing ridges.
I roll down the windows and catch the first whiff of pine.
This collection of 30 film photos of US Mountains is dedicated to longing, belonging and to everyone who ever found themselves staring wistfully in the rearview mirror, wishing they could stay. Each image is accompanied by a haiku I wrote, a textual image to ponder.
