Ziann Esantè Clemons was born in Queens, New York on November 29, 1998, and currently lives in Northern Virginia. She is pursuing a double major in BFA Fashion Design from the Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising and a BA in International Studies at the Virginia Commonwealth University. During her time at VCU, Clemons has developed her design philosophy and singular aesthetic, while honing her design skills with an international outlook.

As a designer, Clemons is a collaborator. She absorbs observations in life lessons and university experiences and combines these with ideas from her travels into her designs. She is the connection between the different characteristics of traditional garments from around the world. Overarchingly, Clemons is a product of her surroundings and global perspective.

Ziann's vision is to create clothing that is ethically focused for the mindful, forward-thinking and modern individual. Her mission is to inspire wearers to be the best version of themselves, confident in their own skin and in their clothing.

Mongol Empire of today What if the Mongol Empire still existed in today's day and age? Clemons explores the modern-day Mongol Empire, had they remained in power. Her research investigates the vast and far-reaching coverage the Mongol Empire had as far west as Eastern Europe and as far east as Korea. Her thoughtful use of various traditional and cultural garment references throughout the collection, investigates and merges various ancient civilizations found within the Empire, however, retold, through a modern lens. This is accomplished through the use of natural dyes and fibers found in the Khan's Empire, as well as key recognizable details: collars, necklines, sleeves, and overall silhouettes. Influences of European chainmail in the knits, East Asian influenced menswear, along with a color story depicting the plains and steppes of Mongolia are found throughout the collection.

MUTATING TIME explores diverse concepts of utopian worlds. What would our current sphere look like, had conflicts been avoided, and positive collaborations taken place instead?

Global Citizens has partnered with Professor Hawa Stwodah and her students from her 1 + 0 = fashion design course at the Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising to traverse these reimagined worlds accompanied with meaningful dialogue. Students and the GC team were tasked with exploring how raw materials would be used in fashioning garments, the evolution of these uncolonized and resource-rich lands, how technology would evolve, and which commodities would be at the forefront of trade. Below is a selection of some of the students' exemplary works - Clo3D work completed by students and/or the GC team.
