Calgary House and Techno DJ, KVTE; performing her opening set for Justin Jay at The Hifi Club, February 1, 2020.

Photographer: Brette Culp, 403ABC

A moment frozen in time of a rising local artist; KVTE. Where all seemed right, nobody knowing the world was soon to be shut down and things would never be the same. February 2020; taken by Brette Culp (better known as 403ABC), in the iconic place that once held so many memories for so many humans in Calgary; The Hifi Club. It was a safe space for those of us who didn’t fit in with the mainstream crowd. I grew up as a young raver here, experiencing many amazing artists, moments, and connections. Not knowing that one day, I myself would be the one standing on this stage as an up and coming Calgary Female DJ, one month before they would close their doors for the last time. R.I.P. The Hifi Club 2005-2020 🖤

These two images are part of one piece. Two colors, two emotions, two vibes. This would be the first, and last time I would step foot on this stage. POV: February 1, 2020; everything seemed right, the dance floor was grooving, nobody knowing the world would soon be so different. Our sacred dance floors would never be the same. These images were taken by Brette Culp (better known as 403ABC), in the iconic place that once held so many memories for so many individuals in Calgary; The Hifi Club. It was a safe space for those of us who didn’t fit in with the mainstream crowd. The subculture that craved more in life than top 40 and the latest trends. I grew up as a young raver here starting in 2010; experiencing many amazing artists, moments, and connections. Not knowing that one day, I myself would be the one standing on this stage as an up and coming Calgary Female DJ, one month before they would close their doors for the last time. R.I.P. The Hifi Club 2005-2020 🖤
