St. Nicholas Cathedral, Famagusta, North Cyprus (Turkish side)

Fascinating historical site... The Byzantines controlled Cyprus during the battle of the First Crusade, until 12th Century AD when the island became a target of Richard The Lionheart's Crusaders, who easily subdued the island. He later sold the island to the Knights Templar, who unable to hold the island due to civil revolts, and a rebellion occurred on April 6, 1192 which made the Templars sell the island to Guy de Lusignon.

Decompression - Cyprus on 35mm Film collection image

In 2006 I was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan with the Canadian Armed Forces for 8 months. Upon completion of the tour we were flown to Larnaca, a small (and poor) port city on the southern coastline of Cyprus for 4 days. During these days we were subject to morning lectures, free/relaxation time, and site seeing tours in order to 'decompress' from our combat mission. This was to help us with our reintegration into 'normal' day to day life once back in Canada.

This is a collection of 11 photos captured during those 4 days...
