Grief is a horrific feeling, that feels more akin to un-feeling. Physically, the world takes on a distinctly empty shade of grey. Mentally, you're retreating inwards and building impenetrable walls of static. Emotionally, you feel equal parts insatiable anguish manifesting in what can only be described as complete loss of control, and an unrelenting void of where your loss once was.

At its heart, In Dark Places is a tribute to my best friend Theo who tragically took his life on March 24th, 2017. The goal of this project was to present beautiful, vibrant images and contrast them with jarring, negative emotional responses I experienced while grieving. Four images have been assigned positive terms to mark four years of growth & to commemorate how I experienced his friendship.

My hope is that these photographs and their names create a sense of discord within you, to spark your internal dialogue & make you think. May they resonate with you the same way they did with me.
