In eastern philosophy the word ‘Maya’ refers to the illusion of life. It is the concept that the true nature of life is hidden from us and what we perceive of life is actually an illusion. It refers to the concept that all of life is one consciousness and we are a part of this whole…a larger living entity. This work is a humorous take on this, the nature of Reality. It is to be read like a comic strip. It includes the snake character named Kundalini and the 3rd Eye, that symbolises Spiritual Insight.

MokshaShots! collection image

My art is a mix of pop surrealism and eastern philosophy! It’s a fantasy world made of bright colors and character art. The imagery is inspired by street art, comics, psychedelic rock and trance music. I’ve been exhibiting since the mid 90’s and my work has been auctioned by Christie’s several times. I work within a concept I created, called MokshaShots.
In eastern philosophy, 'Moksha' means salvation. We probably won’t get to full fledged Moksha in this life, but we can get a shot of it. Everyone can make their own MokshaShot out of anything they find fulfilling: art, a vacation, a Ferrari or a tequila shot! I use humour and satire to make social comments or cultural critiques.

The traditional Mandala painting was used as a meditation aid. Today, we create gods out of products, people and experiences as objects of contemplation. To satirize this penchant for veneration, I created deities called MokshaPets. Each has Mandalas of their own. Enjoy!
