This piece was inspired by Agnolo Bronzino’s Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time, a representative oil painting of the Florentine Renaissance that is centered around the theme of humanistic desire. The soft and sensual skin of Venus rendered in the original piece is replaced here with a translucent, glowing membrane, a futuristic appearance that seem to exist in a virtual space as a construction of technology. Yet, her form and expression convey the same humanistic element of desire, and in her hand is the golden apple of desire from greek mythology. Here, she is no longer a just a representation of humanism, but an embodiment of technology’s connection to the past and to humanity.
