Superpark was an annual event put on by Snowboarder Magazine that, aside from being a great showcase of riding, was a chance for riders from around the world who would never normally get a chance to ride together, to come together and blow off some steam every spring. For photographers, who usually spent the season working in a bubble, it was a chance to nerd out with our fellow camera nerds. On this day we were shooting a sunset in the Mammoth pipe and I was trying very hard to keep all other humans out of my frame. Somehow I managed to do it, and I also managed to catch one of the other photographers’ strobes, giving Trevor some depth.
In the 90s snowboarding was still new, wild, dangerous, and changing by the month. It was exciting, the characters were legendary, and it went from the outcast to the olympics in a matter of years. These are some of the photos from that era. Sports collectables for those of us who were never into team sports.
