About the Chef

Juan Arbelaez left his native Colombia at the age of 18 to live his passion in Paris. He knocked on the doors of the famous cuisine school “Le Cordon Bleu” in Paris. Without contacts and without enough money to enroll, thanks to his insistence, he managed to get an appointment with the director who gave him the opportunity to work as a cook for the employees of the academy. So, for a long time, he was working and learning.

On the day of the final exams one of the official students did not show up for the test. Juan asked permission to take the exam instead of him. At the end of the evaluations, the jury rated his work as the best of all. Thanks to this, he ended up working with Michelin-starred Chefs Pierre Gagnaire, Éric Briffard and Éric Frechon.

After a remarkable participation in the cult French TV show "Top Chef", Juan opened his first restaurant "Plantxa" at the age of 25. Today, he runs 12 restaurants in France and he is recognized as one of the most famous Colombian Chefs in the world.

As a Chef and a successful entrepreneur, Juan always tried to democratize a creative, lively, respectful and healthy cuisine. He published several successful books, including his most recent "À table en 20 minutes chrono" which lists delicious, simple and accessible recipes. Alongside his talentuous partner in life Laurie Thilleman, sky seems to be the only limit for Juan.
