"portrait of peace" I remember her very well just like yesterday. she was my classmate and she lost her leg in the war. She is a sports coach for the disable these days. (2022) War leaves in its wake many heroes, and slain men, with names forever embedded in the history of their homeland. Fathers, sons, brothers and husbands of women, forgotten by history. Eight years of my childhood were during in the war, where I witnessed the death, injury and destruction of many women I knew, both in body and soul. If not slain, scarred by the never healing wounds of war, they single handedly carried the burden of life with power. Mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of men who had gone to war. In this collection, I have painted portraits of some of these women, relying on how I remember them and using their actual names as titles.
