Title: Five Of Swords
Artist: Justin Aversano
Medium: Silkscreen on Papyrus
Dimensions: 16” x 24”
Edition: 5/5
Year: 2022
Additional information: In the Five Of Swords, a sly-looking man picks up three swords from the ground. He glances over his shoulder at two men who are walking away with their shoulders slouched, conveying a sense of sadness and loss. Two more swords are strewn across the grass, suggesting a battle has been fought and lost. The sky is cloudy and tumultuous, a sign that not all is well even though the fighting has stopped.

August 7th, 2018 - Present For “Smoke and Mirrors” I am photographing 78 sets of artists, astrologers, psychics, tarot readers, and other forms of mystics from all around the world. Each subject represents a unique tarot card. I am creating a body of work focused on the existence of magic and mysticism through an immersive portrait survey and tarot readings. In the proverb of storytelling, psychics, astrologers, et al. have an assigned position as the all-knowing gypsy with profound visions, within all concurrent and historical cultures—a charged spirit of the ethereal that encompasses destiny, luck, and faith. Mysticism has a deep root in shared folklore, conjuring metaphysical manifestations across the astrological, mythological, academic and the denouement, stringing together tangents of one’s everyday reality with cosmic synchronicity.
