This “annemation” represents the transition from being an artist who creates static images to one who creates animations. The goal of this piece was to breathe life into the art and essentially give birth to a sort of robotic living being. As the figure opens their eyes, they come alive and subtly move to portray the tiny movements of breathing and being alive. I realized upon completion that I created a piece that observes the observer, similar to the experience of observing animals behind glass in a zoo or aquarium. During the initial concepts created in 2022, my inspiration came from the spooky moving eye paintings seen in scary movies and cartoons. I began experimenting with Halloween characters as seen in the Halloweenies collection, but for this piece I specifically wanted to create something that looked like a digital person. Realistic but also painted as a nod to traditional arts. In one sentence, the final piece sets out to accomplish “how to make a painting come alive”.
