'Circulate' is a digital painting I made for LGBTQA+ mental health awareness. LGBTQA+ individuals are almost 3 times more likely than others to experience a mental health condition such as major depression or generalized anxiety disorder. The fear of coming out and being discriminated against for sexual orientation and gender identities, can lead to depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, thoughts of suicide and substance abuse. Stigma, prejudice, and discrimination impacts the mental well-being of the individuals who face this oppression.

‘Circulate’ is a colourful, abstract angiographic style portrait of the head and neck. The diverse colours in the arteries of the neck and brain represents the stigma surrounding mental health and represents how this oppressive stigma further impacts both mental and physical health. The rainbow waveforms in the background represent the ups and downs through mental health recovery and perseverance through it all.
