Kiosk #4

30/100
Colorful, improvised, sometimes a little fucked up. There are still about 20k Kiosks in existence, but every year about 250 are being closed. Convenience stores have a different name, based on the area of Germany, "Trinkhalle" in the Ruhr region, "Büdchen" in Cologne, "Wasserhalle" in Frankfurt, "Späti" in Berlin or uniformly named Kiosk.
For local supply and emergency purchase other points of sale may be suitable, but not for social contacts or the "Quätschchen" (gossip) how you say in German, which go hand in hand with a Kiosk visit.
Nostalgia always comes up when something is threatened with extinction. The colorful, small and sometimes rund-down drinking halls are dying out and with it a cultural piece of Germany which is existing since the 19th century. This collection is meant to capture the diversity and variety of these Kiosks. After all, they are not only classic stores, but a social meeting place for the residential area with a beer, coffee, buns or sweets.
