This is one of the most unsafe and creepy places in the whole city, one of the most exciting and tragic moments of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986 is associated with the basement of the hospital. Several hours after the accident, starting at 4 am, the victims were brought to the hospital MSCH-126 from the station. Among them were both the Chernobyl personnel themselves and the firefighters who put out the fire on the roof of the 4th power unit. All things, including shoes, outerwear of the victims and the linen on which they lay, were thrown into the basement.

Every centimeter of this place is saturated with pain and suffering of tragedy. We managed to take a lot of shots here, all of them are quite creepy, hospital beds, the remains of medicines. None of us remained indifferent, some guys refused to go to the hospital, the sight was really creepy. Since I love symbolic photos, this tree, which is located in the hall, has become a symbol of the hospital, I don’t know how it has not completely collapsed in 35 years. This photo is another confirmation of how not eternal human creations are and how strong nature is.

Memories of a Nurse Dzhulai Lyudmila Vasilievna of the medical and sanitary unit No. 126. Our doctor Valentin Petrovich Belokon and the ambulance driver Anatoly Gumarov were in the ward. It was their team that first went to the nuclear power plant. Seeing the suffering of all these people was very painful. Moreover, we, doctors, knew many of them - both the firefighters and the station workers - long before the accident, we knew their wives and children.

One of these guys started radiation psychosis - he became extremely active, experienced a strong emotional and physical uplift, was torn somewhere, called some Olya. It was impossible to keep him in place, and the roommates fixed the guy with sheets on the bed. Since I have experience working with a patient with mental disorders, the guys called me for help: "Lyuda, what should we do?" As soon as I started talking to him, he rushed with such force that he tore the sheets, pushed me away from his bed, and began to swear mercilessly. Fortunately, in the end, he still recognized me (we knew each other before the accident), and I managed to calm him down.

Already in the evening, when the medical staff of the medical unit began to deliver iodine preparations to the apartments of Pripyat residents, they gave me such a pill too. And before that, I worked for 12 hours with irradiated patients without iodine prophylaxis.

PRIPYAT. GHOST TOWN collection image

On April 4, 2021, a small team of us went on a stalker campaign and, after walking a 30-kilometer zone on foot, stayed in the city of Pripyat for 3 days. What we saw there overturns consciousness, you are in mixed feelings, on the one hand, you freeze from the realization of the great tragedy that affected all of humanity, on the other hand, you see how nature diligently licks its wounds and absorbs what man has built.

We managed to get to places where things remained in their places, toys and drawings were left in kindergartens, old newspapers, photographs and musical instruments were left in apartments. This small collection of photographs are the most emblematic places of memory that I have been able to find. An image of how people disappeared in an instant and how things that nature gradually absorbs keep the memory of their owners.

The city is dying but our memory is eternal.
