We started our journey through the ghost town with an amusement park and its signature Ferris wheel. The opening of the park was supposed to be the event of the year and everyone was looking forward to it. The amusement park composed of small carousels of various variations, and its main object was a huge Ferris wheel. The opening of the amusement park was planned on May 1, 1986, the city did not live to see this day. The Ferris wheel is so large that it can be seen from anywhere in the city. It is impossible to take it out and put it in another park; it is forbidden to take out any items from the territory of the exclusion zone. All of this are contaminated with radiation, and this is done to prevent other cases of infection. The Ferris wheel in Pripyat is there forever, photography lovers have made it a symbol of an abandoned city.
On April 4, 2021, a small team of us went on a stalker campaign and, after walking a 30-kilometer zone on foot, stayed in the city of Pripyat for 3 days. What we saw there overturns consciousness, you are in mixed feelings, on the one hand, you freeze from the realization of the great tragedy that affected all of humanity, on the other hand, you see how nature diligently licks its wounds and absorbs what man has built.
We managed to get to places where things remained in their places, toys and drawings were left in kindergartens, old newspapers, photographs and musical instruments were left in apartments. This small collection of photographs are the most emblematic places of memory that I have been able to find. An image of how people disappeared in an instant and how things that nature gradually absorbs keep the memory of their owners.
The city is dying but our memory is eternal.
