This hanafuda shows the silence after Kaguyahime has returned to the moon.
I drew the silence, the loneliness, and the beauty after the celestial maiden appeared.
I drew this picture based on the Japanese folk tale "Kaguya-hime".
The story is about Princess Kaguya, who was born out of a bamboo tree and in the end returns to the moon, her real birthplace.
One day, an old man found a girl in the bamboo and took her home.
The old man had a wife, but they had no children, so they named the child "Kaguya-hime" and raised her.
Kaguyahime became a beautiful woman, and the rumor of her beauty reached the emperor.
The emperor asked Kaguyahime to marry him, but she refused.
Eventually, when the Jugoya(※Japanese herveswt festival in August)came, Kaguyahime finally said.
"I belong to the Land of the Moon. On the next jugoya night, the people of the moon will take me to the moon.
Then the day came.
Kaguyahime said before returning to the moon, "If I wear the angel's raiment, I won't be able to understand people's hearts anymore. Before that happens, I want to say thank you to my grandfathers one last time.
And so, after thanking them, Kaguyahime returned to the moon.
