Women dressed in traditional clothing attend the funeral.

In Ghana, traditional funerals are a big deal. They can last up to a week and play a central role within the community. There are drums, bands, and personalized coffins depending on the deceased's profession. I arrived in this beachside fishermen's town one week after the death of its chief, and the celebrations were just getting started. Drums, music, and a lot of drinking. Extremely loud music coming from massive speakers. And in the centre of a vast circle of people there was this fish-shaped coffin with the body of the Chief Fisherman. It was the start of the festivities and a celebration of life. These are the images I took on that day.
