‘The Pokarekareana Lure’ by Lucy from the Treasure Trove

Lucy is the high tech whizz in the back room of the Treasure Trove where she is well known for inventing electronic devices, working with her Commodore 64, and creating 8-bit music. Barry the Cat often sits on her Dot matrix when she’s trying to print and purrs loudly when she plays music from the South Pacific. He hasn’t been seen in a while now so she’s trying to lure him into a portal home with his favorite song...

This song is partly based on the traditional NZ folk song Pokarekare Ana which has Maori lyrics describing sadness and pining for a lost love who is far away. The same tune can also be heard in the traditions of Croatian folk music and traveled with settlers from Croatia to NZ in the late 1800s.

Barry is an elusive kitty and is often disappearing through portals! In an effort to vibe Barry through Chicken-Shop Bernice’s dumpster portal, Lucy has created her 8bit version of this song and is hoping the power of the beautiful melody will bring Barry back to the Treasure Trove.
