Qiujin was a feminist writer and poet, considered a national hero in China.
Tired of an abusive husband, who mocked her desire to be a poet, the Chinese woman left the country in search of a better life in Japan. There, she became aware of women's rights and became one of the first feminists in the East. Qiu met a sad ending, being publicly beheaded in her hometown of Shanyin, aged 31. Shocked by the brutal execution of a woman, many Chinese grew stronger in their resentment against the dynasty.
Qiu Jin represents the Fala Mulher community, a non-profit organization that works to combat domestic violence against women.
