Of all the world’s myths and fairy tales, there are cats playing a part of the stories.

Cats represent wealth, love and luck. And at the same time, they signify spiritual worlds, unfortunate events, and even death.

“Densetsu” (legends, myths) is a story of cats in the mythical world portrayed through the backdrop of Japanese landscape, a land full of cats’ tales, namely Nekomata (the forked cat) or ‘Maneki-Neko’, known as ‘the beckoning cat’.

Inspired by Ukiyo-e (wooden mold printing) portraying Japan’s lives and cultures in the 17th centuries, visual records and folklores, “Densetsu” depicts the relationship between cats, people and cities through techniques of brush pen, watercolor painting and digital painting.
