Welcome to Rio!
When you look at it, you know exactly why it's called Rio de Janeiro - Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City): it's absolutely magnificent.
In 2012, the city of Rio de Janeiro gained the title of the first urban cultural landscape World Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO): Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea.
Rio’s dramatic landscapes are made from a collection of mountains and peaks covered by the Tijuca Forest that provide a stunning backdrop to the city.
The highest peak reaches up to over a kilometer high before sloping back down into a series of jungle cones such as the Two Brothers Hill, Pedra Bonita, Pedra da Gavea and the Sugarloaf Mountain, which can all be seen in this photograph.
I have lived in Rio for over a decade and have had the chance to see and capture the natural wonders of this city that go far beyond the beaches. Exploring the trails and climbing the major rocky mountains provides a very privileged view of the city with its fabulous layers.
Now, I would like to share the best photos from my Rio adventures, as well as encourage other people to get out and connect with nature. Enjoy it!
