Sumatra is a large Indonesian island known for its rugged tropical terrain, wildlife and smouldering volcanoes.

Orangutans can only be found in the rain forests of Sumatra and Borneo.

They spend nearly their entire lives in trees — swinging in treetops and building nests for sleep.

The Sumatran orangutan is considered Critically Endangered with an estimated population of 7,500 individuals left as of 2022.
