• Lee WoongCheol’s Imagery and Archetype embodies ‘mana,’ the intangible magical energy associated with both ancient rituals and contemporary fantasy fictions or games. 3D graphic videos and his sculptures created by 3D printing certain images from the videos and then finishing them using the traditional casting method belong to disparate media, but they still have identical data. His works using mana, an imaginary energy hovering between the material and immaterial, as a subject reveals that the images of traditional plastic art and today’s digital images exist on the same continuum. As such, his works discuss the senses penetrating between the tradition, virtuality and reality, as well as the material and immaterial, through different yet similar relationships.

• 이웅철의 영상 Imagery와 조각 Archetype은 과거의 제의에서부터 근래의 판타지 소설이나 게임에 등장하는 무형의 힘인 ‘마나’를 형상화한 작업이다. 3D 그래픽으로 만들어진 영상과 영상의 특정 장면을 3D 프린팅 한 뒤 전통적인 주물방식으로 마무리한 조각은 서로 다른 매체이지만 데이터상으로 동일한 정보를 지닌다. 물질과 비물질을 오가는 마나라는 가상의 힘을 소재로 한 그의 작품은 전통적인 조형예술의 이미지와 현대의 디지털 이미지가 같은 연장선 안에 존재함을 드러낸다. 이렇듯 그의 작품은 다르면서도 유사한 관계를 통해 전통과 가상과 현실, 물질과 비물질을 관통하는 감각에 관해 이야기한다.
