Humans in Dream Worlds Collection (HIDW) - 004
The majestic Andes range in all of its glory! This shot is quite special to me, as this mountain, Cerro Torre, is often hidden behind a wall of clouds. It took me multiple trips, many nights camped out, and even a few night-hikes until I finally got this shot!
On my last attempt, I had camped out for 3 nights at the base of the mountain. It pretty much rained the whole entire time. I decided to hike the 9km back to town, only to find out when I arrived that there was a chance for clear skies the next morning! I then hiked the 9km back during the night, hoping not to run into a mountain lion along the way! And there it was, the mighty Cerro Torre in the distance, finally! I could not believe it! I went crazy for the next hour shooting away before heading back to town again.
Unfortunately, I ended up getting sick upon my return. Perhaps I overdid it. It was the end of a long backpacking trip. The last 18 hours I had pushed myself too far. I hiked 27km "17miles" without any food or sleep. I think this weakened my immune system. The next day, I had 3 flights to get back home, in which I developed a sinus infection. Long story short, my ears did not pop for days, which resulted in my eardrum bursting! In the end, I got my shots of Cerro Torre! I guess you can say that I "earned" this image!

This collection features 10 of my best and most popular images, some of which have been featured online by the likes of National Geographic Magazine, Sony Alpha, TripAdvisor, & Visit Argentina. These images were taken over a 3.5 year period in Argentina, Portugal, Northern Ireland, & the US.
As a landscape photographer, my aim is to capture the experience and feeling of a location/moment all within a single image! I want the viewer to feel as if they have teleported into one of my images. There are many ways in which I try to achieve this and one of them is by adding in the human element. (Person) Sometimes this can be done to show scale (a person next to a mountain for example) but it's so much more than that! To me, it adds another layer of dreaminess, depth, emotion, and perhaps even a sense of wanderlust. Let your imagination run wild... Maybe it's you standing there in that image!
