Gashadokuro is a Japanese Yokai.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi's giant skull is one of the most famous yokai paintings in ukiyo-e, but it is not a depiction of a gashadokuro. However, the image of the skull has been used since early times.

This yokai was created in the middle of the Showa period (1926-1989), and its origins are different from those of yokai derived from folklore.

It is said that the skeletons and grudges of the unburied dead, such as those who died in battle or in the wild, gathered together to form a giant skeleton. It is said that they wander around at night making a rattling sound, and when they find the living, they attack them, crush them and eat them.
