Name: Zlatina Husa Kohút

War changes people. Many return from war a shell of their former selves. For a usual few, war is the place they truly feel themselves. Zlatina Husa Kohút was one of those people. She studied hard, got great marks, and with her parents’ connections, received easy acceptance to some of the best schools in the galaxy. Her mother and father were very happy with the way her life was turning out. It had gone as perfectly as the perfect plan they had set up for her. All that was left was for her to get her law degree, spend a few years on a few memorable cases, and she would become the youngest partner in Kohút & Kohút LLP. (soon to be Kohút, Kohút & Kohút LLP.).

She did not share her parents’ excitement for THEIR plan for HER life. Where was the adventure in following a predestined path? Where was the danger? Danger came to her and everyone she knew when an opposing faction tried to take full control of her planet. The defending faction, the one they belonged to, prepared a full defense. One part of that was in calling a draft to bolster their military ranks. Mrs. and Mr. Kohút pulled some strings and had Zlatina removed from that draft. They weren’t going to let something like a war get in the way of their perfect plan.

To their unfortunate dismay, Zlatina herself derailed that plan, going straight to the faction recruiters and volunteering for the draft with a request to enter boot camp immediately. Her dumbfounded parents had no chance to react.

The war wasn’t “fun.” but it was exactly what she was looking for. She learned skills she’d never considered, traveled to places she’d never been, and met all kinds of creatures so different from her and her family. Life was challenging, but it was the adventure she needed.

Unfortunately, it ended less than a year after it began. A hurried truce was made. The treaty seemed fair, with the attacking side claiming it as a victory. Time would tell that, in fact, they had been played. The small, seemingly insignificant details of the peace treaty they signed had entrapped them. It was no surprise to her to learn that the chief consultant law firm on the drafting of the contract was Kohút & Kohút LLP.

Her parents had won again, not just the war, but their battle with Zlatina as well. She realized their power was the greatest force in the galaxy. Her lifeline of life as a soldier had disappeared, and with the end of the Uprising Factions Period (year 3067-3091), there would be no other drafts for her to escape to. She submitted to her parentally engineered destiny.

Around a decade later, the third partner of Kohút, Kohút & Kohút LLP., had almost forgotten the possibility of any other life. That was until an unusual case came across her desk. The ruling faction wished to pursue legal action against a group known as The Militia, recruiting soldiers on their planet. They claimed that this was an invasion of their sovereignty, and they wished to take them to court to force them to stop.

Memories flooded back to Zlatina of those months of adventure as a soldier free from the puppeteering of her parents. A desire to be free that she didn’t know existed anymore was awakened. Quickly, before she could change her mind, she typed up two letters. An application to join The Militia, and her resignation letter.
