The GP (galactic police) was an interplanetary organization that offered a united front against galactic crimes. Now they were severely understaffed and underpaid, and galactic criminals of any merit were not scared of them. Being stopped by a rare GP patrol was only a mild inconvenience. Many criminals would simply pretend they didn’t notice the GP and fly on. Some would offer bribes or threats, but none would comply.
Bazyl Zablocki was a detective in this sad organization. He was a decent detective, connecting evidence and motive with talent unknown in the modern GP. But it never made a difference. His most air-tight cases never held water, and after years of being a powerless cog in a meaningless machine, he broke bad. He took his skills and his galactic access to the black market to serve the highest bidder.
He was soon contacted by a mysterious rich looking creature with horns and swagger for a challenging job. Bazyl’s client wanted him to find dirt on the most powerful being in the galaxy, the speaker of the collective herself. This job would be hundreds of times harder than anything he had done and so dangerous he imagined he could lose not just his tenured position and retirement as a member of the GP, but he could lose his life as well. He thought about it and realized that life as meaningless as his wouldn’t be a travesty to lose and took the job.
