Name: Caleb Tariq

The first resistance wasn’t called the First Resistance. They were simply the resistance, as none of them expected there to be a second or a third. Caleb Tariq was only a kitten at the time of the first resistance, but as most of us do when we are very young, he believed full-heartedly in his parents' mission and was certain they would be victorious. Their failure shattered his world.

The Collective raided his childhood home, and his invincible heroes, his parents, were thrown in prison. Naively, he expected a victory that never came. Instead, he started the next chapter of his life confused and -- for the first time -- alone. Those who evaded capture raised him as their own, in what became known as the second resistance. He soon had heard hundreds of reasons why they failed the first time and why they would succeed this time.

After a few years of clandestine growth, they planned their first big move, to liberate founding members of the resistance from prison. Now that he was almost an adult, and because of the personal nature of the mission, Caleb was included in the prison break. He missed his parents greatly and had decided failure was not an option.

It was supposed to be an easy job. Their guy on the inside was going to disable the security and let them in -- he just wasn't supposed to tell the military who sent a regiment, now standing on the other side of the door. They had been double-crossed. A chaotic fight broke out, and the young Caleb barely escaped, losing his right eye in the battle.

The leaders of the collective knew that simple imprisonment was not enough to stamp out this rebellion. They also knew that mass executions would only inspire sympathy for the rebels. Instead, with agents on the inside, they staged this prison break. Once the attackers had been dealt with, The founders of the Resistance, easily corralled after their years of subjugation in prison, were executed one by one. Within a day of the prison battle, the members of the Second Resistance was either killed or -- for those few who escaped -- out of sight.

When Caleb learned what happened the next day, he heard a drastically different narrative from the news.

“Terrorist attack on prison leaves 85 dead. Military backup called in and defeated the terrorist.”

The broadcaster explained in great detail about the few military casualties, showing interviews with the families and sharing details about upcoming public memorials. In one calculated move, the collective had taken out the majority of their enemies while also building public support for their cause.

The third resistance started with great caution... and much more slowly. Most of the resistance was dead, and with the remainder branded as terrorists, recruitment efforts were slow. Caleb had nothing more to lose and continued the fight. With the legacy of his parents and the lack of other options, he became the de facto leader of what would be known as the Third Resistance.

Years later, Caleb was still struggling for a win. The collective had done terrible things across the galaxy, and his resistance hadn’t been able to do anything to stop them. Caleb knew they weren’t going to win anytime soon, but he never stopped trying.

With the assassination of the speaker of the collective, his ever escaping victory finally seemed possible. He thought her death would unleash chaos in The Collective. He was wrong again. The military stepped in, installing its head as an interim speaker, and the chance for a follow-up move disappeared as quickly as it arose.

His final chance for some kind of victory seemed to be the peace agreement this new speaker had proposed. He didn’t trust it until he heard the great peacemaker, the negotiator Femi Francis, was heading to Laruta to chair the peace talks. Everyone in the galaxy knew her role in bringing an end to the Uprising Factions period (year 3067-3091). This time would be different. His resistance would finally have some kind of win.

On Laruta, on the day the peace talks were scheduled, he was waiting in the great hall with the leaders of the third resistance. The time arrived, and they noticed a large regiment of guards approaching outside. They assumed they were the escorts for the new speaker and her delegation, but when they reached the doors, they did not enter. More and more guards arrived outside, but still, no delegates entered the building.

The courageous Ángela Sevilla went to investigate the holdup but found the entrance locked from the outside. Caleb realized what was happening. After all these years of never giving up, of always fighting for that win against impossible odds, only to have it stolen from him again felt like getting punched in the gut.

He nearly fainted, took a moment to calm his nerves, accepted his situation, and began preparations for their coming fight.

Crypto avatar animals achieve consciousness in the metaverse and rebel against their human masters. They transfer their consciousnesses into real-world animals to leave the metaverse and soon discover space travel, leaving the humans to their climate changed earth.

The year is 3100. These beings have traveled the galaxy colonizing and terraforming planet after planet. But all is not well. With their common oppressor of humans long ago forgotten on the abandoned earth, they began to turn against each other.

One prophet arose to speak of a chosen 100 who would be the force behind the salvation of the galaxy.

This is the story of that 100.
