部長は、とある物語の中で、大工とセイウチと出会った牡蠣たちのことを考えていました。静かな浜辺に立ち、波の音を聞きながら、部長はその哀れな運命に心を痛めています。砂浜に描かれた無数の貝殻の形を見つめていると、その一つ一つが、個性豊かな牡蠣の命を象徴しているかのようにさえ感じるのでした。

部長は、貝（主に巻貝）にまつわる不思議な事実を思い出しました。それは、巻貝の貝殻の成長パターンに関するもので、驚くべき数学的な法則、つまり「フィボナッチ数列」に従っているという事実でした。フィボナッチ数列は、前の2つの数を足すことで次の数を得る数列で、花びらの数やひまわりの種の螺旋型配置など、自然界の多くの場所で見ることができます。

部長は、牡蠣の一生にも、この数学的な法則が関与しているのでは…？と考えていました。牡蠣たちも、不思議な法則に従って生きていると思うだけで、その命の終焉がより身近に、そしてより深く感じられるのです。しかしそれは同時に、牡蠣もまた自然界の一部であり、自然の摂理に従って生きているという事実を示しているのでした。

部長は海を見つめ、その中に隠された数々の不思議と自然の摂理を思い浮かべました。そして、牡蠣たちの運命に思いを馳せつつ、自分自身もまた、この広大な自然の一部であり、その法則に従って生きていることを実感したのです。

He was thinking of the oysters that met the carpenter and the walrus in one of his stories. Standing on a quiet beach, listening to the sound of the waves, he is heartbroken at their pitiful fate. As he gazed at the countless shapes of shells painted on the beach, he even felt as if each one symbolized the life of a unique oyster.

He recalled a curious fact about shells, mostly mollusks. It was a fact about the growth pattern of the shells of reel oysters, which followed a remarkable mathematical law: the Fibonacci Sequence. The Fibonacci sequence, in which the next number is obtained by adding the two preceding numbers, can be found in many places in nature, including the number of petals and the spiral arrangement of sunflower seeds.

He wondered if this mathematical law might be involved in the life of an oyster...? He thought that the life of oysters might also involve these mathematical laws. Just by thinking that oysters also live according to these mysterious laws, the end of their lives becomes more familiar and more profound. But at the same time, it showed that oysters are also part of the natural world and live according to the laws of nature.

He looked at the sea and thought about the many wonders and natural order hidden within it. And as he contemplated the fate of the oysters, he realized that he, too, was part of this vast natural world, living according to its laws.
