「狐」を名乗る人物から手紙を受け取ったのは、4月19日のこと。手紙には「私の友人がどこかで言ったことがある言葉を、あなたに贈りたい。本当に大切なものは、目には見えないんだって」と書かれていました。この数日に体験した出来事を思い出してみると、部長にとっての「大切なもの」は、確かに「目に見えないもの」ばかりのように感じます。

昨日から、部長の頭の中は「狐博士」のことで頭がいっぱいでした。もしも、「X-Potion」の送り主と同一人物だったら…。言葉で説明はできないのですが、「機械の耳」から聞こえた声は、きっと同じ人物だという確信が部長にはありました。

部長が確信を持ち始めたのと、同じ頃。狐博士は、ある大学の研究室で、自分の視界に入るものを眺めていました。「狐」と名乗る前の名前を忘れ去って以来、こうして世界を眺めることが、博士の日課となりました。目に見える姿と本当の姿は必ずしも一致しないということを、博士は身をもって体験しているのです。

博士の姿を知るものは、ごく一部の人間に限られています。「Phonograph record」ー博士の姿は、レコード盤でした。

Ever since he had forgotten his former name, "Fox," this became his daily routine. He has experienced firsthand that what we see does not always match what we really are.
