Currently, Black athletes make up the majority of League players (70%). Consistently, Black athletes have surpassed all barriers; proving their skill, athleticism, and rightful place on League rosters. While Black player representation has grown in numbers in the professional football ecosystem, equity in other industries, and even other roles within sport, hasn’t seen that same ascension. Athletes in the 21st century and beyond utilize their resources to speak out and up for the causes they believe in, advocate for STEAM education, invest in technology and their communities, and advance toward ownership opportunities. This futuristic cleat offers the allusion of transformation into a spaceship with a thruster. Unlike the other eras, it is the only one that points up; signifying the galaxy as our limit.
I want to highlight the Arts part of STEAM in a unique way for the My Cause My Cleats initiative. This year, I’m showcasing the Phoenix Art Museum on my game cleats because I want to emphasize the importance of art with regard to education, expression, beauty, and historical significance. The 3D NFTs honor the literal foot journey of the sport that afforded me this platform. There is so much history and evolution within football that can be seen through something as simple as a cleat. So if we use this vessel for My Cause My Cleats, then we can honor significant eras in football with regard to social and historical context, technological evolution, creativity, and art through that same icon. Art can be the greatest storyteller. These NFTs – these cleats – tell an important story.
Proceeds from this NFT collection sale will go to support the Phoenix Art Museum.
