Devi Mahatmya, the sacred Indian scriptures that celebrates the Sacred Feminine, declares that all women are images of the eternal Goddess herself. (Striya Samasta Sakala Jagatsu) When the gods were tortured by the mighty Asura Mahisha, all of their hopes had evaporated. When they couldn't search for any help from outside, they looked inside. And from their deepest realm of soul, channeled out powers, whose accumulation forged a woman. A Goddess. With multiple arms. She stood resplendent in glory, and her smile gave hope to all those tired gods. They declared her to be Durga, since she dispelled their distress. They offered her their weapons, and she marched into the battlefield, seated upon her ferocious lion. The Asura whom none of the gods were able to defeat, was impaled and finally slayed by the Goddess after a fierce battle. The gods showered flowers upon her and looked upon to her as the Mother of the three worlds. She declared, "Whenever and wherever there shall be the decline of dharma, and adharma would be on rise, the Sacred Feminine will always manifest in myriad forms!" And till day, she does. She manifests in all moments. The Devi is present and manifest as energy within all beings. When a mother fondles her child lovingly, she manifests there as the eternal warmth of maternal affection. She gives meaning to our lives in the form of memories. She manifests as courage of warriors & innocence of infants. She manifests as our mother, sister, wife & daughter. The scriptures declare it in union that the household where women are not respected, that is abandoned by the divine beings. This recurring tale of the Goddess is a reminder, that Shakti is within. Every women has this Shakti latent within her. When required, it can be channeled out as courage, love and sacrifice. For all women today, you have the Goddess within! At apt moments, don't be afraid to channel it out. That's the idea with which this painting has been made.
