As a child, I was told to never play with these berries because they are toxic. But I knew that touching them was not, because I did it all the time–whipping up berry stews for my dolls in the woods. Though I did at least listen to the advice to the extent that I never ate them (which is fortunate as they are poisonous to eat)!
In a rather Lady Macbeth-like twist, my hands were often dyed red by their juice. Seeing this particularly ripe bunch by a mangled leaf in Georgia, brought me back to the constraints of childhood that can be easy to overlook as an adult. This unlockable poem seeks to express the notion of how rules enforced on us as children are often ones we outgrow with the benefit of wisdom and time.
Seed Poems are visual art that alludes to the unlockable content within -- a secret poem composed entirely of 12 real seed words. The entire series of mnemonic-based poems is capped at 100 single-edition pieces written in the style of modern found poetry.
