"Dry your eyes son; put your shades on. Don't let them see your tears. Man up, tell yourself you got this; don't let them sense your fears." Vulnerability hidden beneath the sheets; emotions sealed in a bottle. 10 year old me, forced to grow fast, taught to feel no pain. It's crazy. The lifestyle we were forced to grow accustomed.
"How can you be tired boy? That's a luxury you can't afford It's a cold world son, if you're brittle, you will be broken Keep your fvcks on a minus and your Trust on zero" Paranoia saw it and took the chance to settle in. Years passed then I recognized I needed some healing. So I put trust to a test but she failed woefully, gave her a second chance, and then she failed again. Maybe he was right, or maybe he wasn't. Lessons I was taught, birthed from Trauma he experienced.
Maybe it's my fault, or maybe it isn't. First the world needs therapy, then we can get some healing.
This collection is a visual story of the African children I met during my one year service in Kano state. These children made my stay in Kano a memorable experience. I barely understood their language but the love and excitement was real. They taught me how to love, how to appreciate life, and to find joy in the littlest things.
