I digitally documented these wineries in Willamette Valley, OR and Tuscany, Italy. Painted and applied layer after layer of mixed media. Then digitally edited in my home studio in May 2023.
I love, love, love photography, but I miss the darkroom process of seeing a piece from film, through the chemical baths, to the drying rack. I the photography process, but giving up control to a photo printer feels inauthentic and unfinished. I'm big on creating in my house, with sustainable materials that I already own and can easily access. I edit my digital photos in Lightroom, then resize them in block style and print them on my home printer. Sometimes I print multiple copies in both Color and B&W and rip and collage both in my finished pieces. I apply all base photography to the canvas or substrate I'm working on, then I spend days and weeks integrating found objects and mixed media pieces into the artworks. I love layers, so I revisit my canvases again and again with beeswax, encaustic paints, and found objects. I work intuitively, allowing the composition, materials, and loud music (often Ani DiFranco) to speak to me and lead me through the process.
