Myanmar (Burma) is an ethnically diverse nation with Government recognized 135 distinct ethnic groups. These are grouped primarily according to region. There are eight major ethnic races, namely, Kachin, Kayah, Karen (Kayin), Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rankine and Shan. The largest ethnic group, Bamar, takes part nearly 70% of the population, while Shan being the second largest. Since independence in 1948, Myanmar has struggled to forge a national union which reflects its ethnic diversity. Many would argue nowadays that Myanmar could not find peace within its borders if the military is in power. Some would even believe that the military leaders intentionally keep the conflict going because it empowers them. The political party (National League for Democracy) lead by Aung San Suu Kyi won the election in 2020 by a landslide victory. The democratic government is believed to have the power to end all the internal conflicts. The result of the election had terrified the power-hungry military leaders. On 1st of February 2021, the military coup occurred. The military’s inability to go back on their own actions has made them suppress protestors by lethal means. Since then, the vicious cycle of violence starts all over again. Many protesters joined the ethnic armed group to get military training. Things escalated very quickly over a year and as of now, the military is facing all-out unrest across the country. We believe that this is a turning point for Myanmar in the history books. We cannot predict the future, but one thing is clear: with the strong determination and perseverance of the resistance shown over the year, there is no backing down. All ethnic groups in Myanmar are united under one true mission: to get rid of the power-hungry monsters from our land. This NFT represent one of the united eight ethnic group: Bamar.
