Aphrodite (Greek: Ἀφροδίτη) is the goddess of love in Greek mythology. Ancient Greeks, who distinguished between body and soul love, had two goddesses named Aphrodite: One of the Aphrodites was the goddess of "body love" and the other was "soul love".

Its name in Roman mythology is Venus, its name in Etruscan mythology is Turan. Its opposite among Gigants is Periboia.

There are two legends about the birth of Aphrodite. While Homer says that the goddess was born from Zeus and Dione, daughter of Oceanus, Hesiod says that this goddess was born from the foamy waves of the sea in Theogonia. Kronos cuts off his father's genitals with a sickle while the king is overthrowing his father, Uranus. The cut organ falls into the sea and Aphrodite is born from the foam formed.

Aphrodite appears in most places as gold. Adjectives that are mostly used for the goddess are lustful, coquettish and heartwarming. She helps Paris in the Trojan War. He gets the god Ares to fight alongside the Trojans. She helps the Trojans until she herself is injured in the fighting. Aeneas was born from his union with Anchises. The goddess protects Aeneas during the Trojan War and during his journey to Italy.

In order to punish the Limnian people who do not worship him, he makes their husbands disgusted by their wives. Their wives also kill all the men on the island. The goddess punishes Eros to fall in love all the time. He tries to keep Psykhe, the lover of his son Eros, away from his son.
