The painting "Spring" by Sandro Botticelli was one of Marilyn Monroe's favorites. The plastic artist Serene Sea (Leganés, Madrid, 1967), initiates through this Renaissance painting a journey in which Marilyn theatricalizes the attributes of femininity and fecundity that she always symbolized. In Sophocles' tragedy Antigone defies the law to mourn the death of her brother Polynices, considered a traitor to her country. She does not accept Creon's law and, on the sly, tries to cover Polynices with earth. Creon discovers her and condemns her to be buried alive. This classic tragedy represents, like Marilyn in Serene Sea's play, a heroine of femininity misunderstood in her time and buried in life by a fame created according to the stereotypes of the time, managed by the media multinationals of the time, such as Hollywood, which concealed and neutralized her true personality. locked image is a JPG file to 8268x8268 pixels
