This project has been on my mind for as long as I can remember. Growing up in France watching westerns with my grandfather paved the way for my eventual move to the United States. Years later, as I set out to discover my adopted country, I found myself engulfed in its beauty. Much to my amazement, the landscape I knew from the movies of my childhood turned out to actually exist. It wasn’t a dream. Or was the American Dream not a fluke after all?
Dream or not, I decided to document my experiences to convey my own sense of wonder through the lens. If I were to ever wake up, I would at least have proof that I had been there. From mountain peaks on long difficult climbs, to night missions playing with light and darkness, to the occasional discreetly stolen portrait, these are my accounts. Each photo was taken with the utmost respect for the subject, with the goal of leaving the audience wondering if the photographer was ever there at all.
