Futsunushi is the god of swords from Japanese folklore. Born from the blood of a murdered fire god, Futsunushi was tasked by the gods of the heavens to subjugate the earth. Together with the thunder deity Takemikazuchi, Futsunushi demanded the gods of the earth to submit to the authority of the heavens. Some gods conceded and relinquished their authority quietly. Those that refused to yield were slain. After Futsunishi's bloody task was done, he returned to his home in the sky. Thus, the rulership of Japan passed from the gods of the earth to the gods of the heavens - and their eventual descendants: The Imperial House of Japan.
