The Kumakatok are three, hooded, ominous spirits (one female, two old men), who knock on doors in the middle of the night. It is said that those who open their doors will be told by the Kumakatok that a member of their household will soon die. To ward off the Kumakatok, people from Luzon and Visayas paint their doors with a white cross. It is said that the Kumakatok usually appear during wars and pandemics.
