For hundreds of years, traditional art galleries and their gatekeepers acted like poisonous vipers: golden, silver and bronze snakes. They enforced their value on the market, but as a gargantuan cost. Artists were encouraged to try and grab one by the tail at their own peril.

So many artists just ended up hungry, dead, or plain defeated, poisoned for life.
